If you’re after a secluded retreat with a bit more panache than a simple log cabin, we’ve got a rather more modern alternative for you. The Case Inlet Retreat nails that beautiful combination of natural surroundings and contemporary architecture on a 20 acre lot on the Key Peninsula overlooking the Case Inlet and the Olympic Mountains.

The remit for the enclosure was to build a “modern but humble, low maintenance retreat that would at once provide a sense of shelter but also a transparency and connection to the land”. As such, each room is designed to provide a unique view of the surrounding area, from tree canopies to water and sunsets, and an exterior staircase to a flat roof where you can take it all in at once.

As far as sanctuaries we’d like to visit go, this is the kind of thing we’d definitely put on the list.
