Hello House

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the Hello House is simply a rather elaborate Lego construction created by someone who’d been saving up all those white bricks people never use. In reality this Victorian shophouse in Melbourne, Australia has been updated for the 21st century and sits in a regular street boasting some pretty impressive contemporary interiors to go with its welcoming front signage.

Designed collaboratively with Melbourne artist Rose Nolan it’s an investment in craft that uses regular materials such as plywood, brickwork and industrial trusses and relies on skilled designers rather than shiny surfaces and expensive designer furniture to give it that uber-premium appearance.

On the inside the house can transform according to the needs and moods of its residents, varying from a cosy winter retreat to an airy pavilion in the summer months, all the while hiding the subtleties of its interiors from prying eyes.
