Getting away from it all is all we’ll ever end up doing if people keep creating luxurious abodes in the wilderness like this. It’s the Nahahum Canyon Cabin, near Cashmere, Washington, created by Balance Associates Architects as a 1500 foot square two story retreat that’s been built right into the hillside.

The out facing walls have been sensibly aligned to maximise the amount of natural light the reception rooms receive and importantly to deliver spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. If this hasn’t left jaws on the floor by the time visitors enter the house the main entry should do the trick. It opens into a two story room with full height glazing from which you can see the second-floor loft space, housing a master suite and guest bedroom and bathroom.

Making your way across the main floor to the living space there’s a kitchen, powder room and rear utility area, all of which is elegantly decked out with sumptuous contemporary wooden interiors to provide a minimalist and tranquil setting in which to watch the world go by. Check out the brochure at the above link for a visual feast of premium wilderness luxury.
