In 1897, table shuffleboard rated as much space in the metropolitan newspapers of the New York City area as prize-fighting and baseball. Highly publicized tournaments were played by such colorful characters as “Big Ed” Morris, Dave “The Obstetrician” Wiley, Alex “Pusher” Scott, Ed “OhMy” Gardland and George “Attila” Lavender drew hordes of fans. That won’t happen ever again, but you can recreate all the excitement and style within the walls of your own home thanks to this stunning 32-inch long shuffleboard table.
Even the wood in these handmade, constructed-to-order shuffleboards has a proud history, as all the oak is sourced from old barns and other structures that would otherwise be scrapped. Not only does the reclaimed wood show its age and character like the lines in Clint Eastwood’s face, it’s also more resistant to warping, shifting and people putting their drinks on the playing surface.
The “unibody design” is constructed from high-strength steel, with the bottom of the legs threaded to allow for leveling feet. Eight-ounce dyed leather hides make up the base for the gutter. The table is both a work of art and a serious arena for the dog-eat-dog-drink-whiskey sport of table shuffleboard.
