We do wonder what Mr.T would have to say about today’s penchant for wearable tech. No doubt he’d be pitying the fool gullible enough to walk round like a portable branch of Dixons, but then how many important calls has he missed sifting through that rainforest of jewellery for his smartphone?
This time it’s the turn of high-tech rings capable of alerting you to calls, texts and notifications and remote-controlling your phone to do stuff like skip through music playlists, take a picture, change profiles and make calls.
Despite sounding like something you’d get in return for sending coupons to Nestle, the waterproof Smarty Ring is actually pretty smart, and doesn’t look too bad either. And if, like most, you check your phone around 150 times per day and on one occasion find it isn’t there, you can set off an alert to locate it, or listen for a beep that sounds when you move more than 30 meters away.
It’s the product of a crowd-funded “indiegogo” campaign, where it blitzed its goal of $40,000, raising $299,049 before the deadline, and is celebrating by offering potential buyers some pretty big discounts on pre-orders, set to be fulfilled in April.
