This film presents the past, present and future of snowboarding, as seen through the lives and experiences of the Oakley Snowboarding team, who are kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters of the powder.
Spanning the planet from Hokkaido to Hemsedal and the backcountry of British Columbia to the laneways of Helsinki, director Joonas Kenttämies uses state-of-the-art techniques and technologies to capture mindblowing footage of the sport, but the film is about much more than just the visuals. We learn about each rider’s journey in the sport and the stories and emotions behind the events that defined turning points in the sport. There’s the ‘first double cork’ from 2003, then the triple cork in 2010, plus the Mads Jonsson Hemsedal session from 2006, which continues to drop jaws almost a decade later.
Another scene brings together some of Eero Ettala’s frontside boardslides gleaned from his many video parts, are played together to give a potted history that shows just how much higher the bar gets set every season. From the trailblazers to the rising stars, this is a visual feast full of ripping yarns and shredded powder.
