Anyone in the technology biz will tell you that 4K is a tricky beast – is it the next “3D” (ie: a failed gimmick) or the next HD? Do our eyes need more resolution (no they don’t) or is this just an opportunity for companies to wow audiences with giant TVs and convince rich blow-hards that they really need a 100” LCD with a squillion dots per inch?
We know the answer, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise. And neither does Sony, who has jumped on board with a wallet-shatteringly cool 4K ultra short throw projector system. Short throw projectors are already awesome because you don’t need a great big unit hanging from the middle of a room, but this one actually looks like part of the furniture.
Built from lavish aluminium, it’s capable of a 147” image and has a modular design, allowing you to add cabinets and speakers that blend in flawlessly with the projection unit itself.
Did we mention wallet-shattering? This baby will set you back between $30,000 and $40,000 when it becomes available in the US by summer this year.
