Anyone with a smartphone and a half-decent eye can snap a respectable photo every now and then, but it takes something pretty special to make it into the big leagues. When it comes to jaw-dropping visuals it doesn’t come much better than the Travel Photography of the Year awards, and 2014 delivered a typical collection of awe-inspiring portraits and panoramas.

Our featured image above is from Polish photographer Jakub Rybicki, who won the award for Best Single Image in a Portfolio – Earth, Air, Fire, Water but we don’t envy the job of a panel of judges who had to choose from hundreds of entries to settle on the winning selection, all viewable at the above link.

If you’re in the area the winning images will be exhibited at the Royal Geographical Society in London from 24th July to 5th September 2015, and if any in particular take your fancy many will be available to purchase from the photographer’s own websites.
